Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo

Augustine was influenced by reading the life of Saint Anthony of the Desert, who when he read “Go, sell all you have, and give to the poor, and come and follow me”. Augustine did just that.

St. Augustine of Hippo is the patron of brewers because of his conversion from a former life of loose living, which included parties, entertainment, and worldly ambitions. His complete turnaround and conversion has been an inspiration to many who struggle with a particular vice or habit they long to break.

St. Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen.

The Queenship of Mary

Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary, because you believed in all the things which were told you by the Lord: you will reign for ever with Christ”.

The feast of the Queenship of Mary was established in 1954 by Pope Pius XII and commanded that on that day each year, the world should renew its consecration to her. This memorial celebrates the same event that is highlighted by the fifth glorious mystery of the Holy Rosary.
"The purpose of the Feast is that all may recognize more clearly and venerate more devoutly the merciful and motherly sovereignty of her who bore God in her womb" (Ven. Pius XII, Ad. Coeli Reginam).

May the Mother and Queen of our lives, Mary, continue to lead us towards her beloved son and our King, Jesus Christ and wrap us in her mantle of love.
Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us.

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Since death is a consequence of sin, it was fitting that in the case of Our Lady, due to her freedom from original sin and personal sin, she would have protected her from the general law of death.

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven, before her body could begin to decay.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is declared as a dogma in the Catholic Church stating "that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." As a dogma, the Assumption is a required belief of all Catholics; anyone who opposes their belief in the dogma, Pope Pius declared, "has fallen away completely from the divine and Catholic Faith."

And Mary said:

'My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord

and my spirit exults in God my saviour;
because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid.
Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him.
He has shown the power of his arm,
he has routed the proud of heart.
He has pulled down princes from their thrones
and exalted the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things,
the rich sent empty away.
He has come to the help of Israel his servant,
mindful of his mercy
-according to the promise he made to our ancestors-
of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.'

O great Saint, who, inflamed with divine love, didst find thy delight in prayer and intimate union with God; obtain for us to be faithful in our daily prayers, to love our Lord ardently, and to observe His commandments with ever increasing fidelity.

New Posture during Holy Mass

Beginning the first weekend in September, all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, will undergo a change in posture during the celebration of Holy Mass. The reason for this to be implemented comes in light of some churches throughout the Archdiocese without any kneelers which causes the faithful to stand during the Eucharistic Rites, while other parishes (with kneelers) would kneel. So to ensure that there is proper uniformity throughout the Body, this change in posture would be implemented in September. You can read and understand more about this in the article posted here: Stand in Thanksgiving
