Parish Notices for the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1. Our annual fund raising barbeque is on Saturday 27^th September. Tickets cost $40.00 for Chicken, $45.00 for Pork & $45.00 for Fish are now available. Contributions to purchase ingredients will be most appreciated. 
2. The team members of Ministry to the Sick and Shut-Ins is having a fund raising Book Drive hopefully at the end of August. For further information please speak with Karen Ramlogan. 
3. Coming out from the Sick and Shut-ins ministry is the Consolation Prayer group. Praying with families who have experienced the loss of a loved one on the 9 nights, 40 days and yearly anniversary. See Karen Ramlogan for more information.

Local Brother joins Priesthood

On the morning of Saturday August 2nd, St. Finbar's R.C. Church hosted a special Mass in which Br. Matthew Martinez O.P. was ordained a priest. The special mass was celebrated by Archbishop Joseph Harris with priests from different areas of the Archdiocese and Bishops from the neighboring islands witnessing and concelebrating.
It was not only the first ordination for our current Archbishop but also the first in 10 years for the Dominican Order. The last two ordinations prior to this order were that of Frs. Dwight Black and Alan Mohammed  which the Archdiocese hsoted.
After seven years of study, Matthew Martinez officially joins the company as a local Friar together with Fr. Ferdinand Warner, Fr. Dwight Black, Fr. Alan Mohammed, Fr. Carlyle Fortune,  Fr. Matthew Ahye.
The parish of St. Joseph/Mt. D'or wishes to congratulate Fr. Matthew Martinez on his new appointment to Priesthood. May Almighty God bless him and his new ministry.

Parish Notices for the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1. Our annual fund raising barbeque is on Saturday 27^th September. Tickets will be available from next weekend. $40.00 for Chicken, $45.00 for Pork & $45.00 for Fish. Contributions to purchase ingredients will be most appreciated. 
2. A reminder the Mass for the Sick is next Saturday 9^th August @ 10am. Extra-ordinary Ministers who take communion to the sick please make a special effort to ensure these persons to attend this Mass. 
3. The Ministry of the Sick and Shut-Ins is having a fund raising Book Drive hopefully at the end of August. Persons would like to donate books can speak with Karen Ramlogan. Deadline for the collection of books is Saturday 9^th August.

Parish Notices for the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

1. August 31^st is traditionally the day we host our annual fund raising Independence Barbeque. Due to the change of parish priest the event was postponed to a later date. The new date being suggested is Saturday 27^th September. We need your help with donations, sales of tickets, ingredients. The events committee will meet on Monday 28^th Jul at 6pm in the Pastoral Centre. Anyone interested in helping can also attend. 
2. In 2015 we will celebrate the 200^th anniversary of our church building. Therefore funds generated from the BBQ and other events will go towards our 200^th Anniversary celebrations. Planning for this event is ongoing. Suggestions are welcomed. 
3. Mass Intentions. If you would like to have a Mass offered, please use the Mass Intention envelope detailing the information on the front of the envelope. You can give the completed envelopes to the Sacristan Catherine Sellier, Morris Smith, Deacon Jeffrey (if you happen to see him) or you can bring it to the Parish Office. At St. Jude’s you can check with Michael Hill. 
4. Mass for the Sick is on Saturday 9^th August @ 10am. Ministers who take communion to the sick please make arrangements for these persons to attend this special Mass.

Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Today, the church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is a title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in honor of her having given the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to Saint Simon Stock (see image). According to a pious tradition this took place at Cambridge in England in 1251. Patrick Duffy tells the story of the Carmelites.
A scapular was originally a form of clothing, which monks wore when they were working. With the passage of time, it got a symbolic meaning: the cross to be borne every day as disciples and followers of Christ. In some religious orders, like the Carmelites, the scapular became a symbol of their way of life. It also became a badge of association with a particular religious group in a lay third order. It signifies commitment to follow Jesus, like Mary, the perfect model of a disciple of Jesus.

A pious tradition tells how Our Lady appeared to St. Simon Stock at Cambridge, England, in 1251. In answer to his appeal for help for his oppressed order, she appeared to him with a scapular in her hand (see image) and said: “Take, beloved son, this scapular of thine order as a badge of my confraternity and for thee and all Carmelites a special sign of grace; whoever dies in this garment, will not suffer everlasting fire. It is the sign of salvation, a safeguard in dangers, a pledge of peace and of the covenant”. This promise is extended to all who out of devotion to the Mother of God wear her habit or badge; they are as if they were affiliated to the Carmelite Order.

New Parish Priest Announced

Archbishop Joseph Harris celebrated Holy Mass on Sunday July 13th at 8.30am and during the liturgy, Archbishop Harris made an official archdiocesan statement regarding the future of St. Joseph parish and an update on our incoming parish priest Msgr. Allan Ventour who is still admitted at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.

As such, Archbishop Harris decided that Msgr. Cuthbert Alexander, current parish priest of St. Peter's R.C. Church, Carenage and Vicar for Communication will be assigned the new parish priest of St. Joseph/Mt. D'or which will take effect from September 1st.

We wish Msgr. Ventour a speedy recovery and ask that God's healing mercy will be upon him.
