Feast of St. Matthew, The Apostle

On Sunday 21st September, the Holy Catholic Church remembers and celebrates the life of St. Matthew, the Apostle. Matthew is the author of the first Gospel and today he is known to be the patron saint of Bankers and Accountants. Son of Alpheus, Matthew was called to be one of the twelve while he was a tax collector. As we honour such a great Saint, let us remember that no matter what our past may hold, Jesus is ready to forgive and use us in a mighty way.

Prayer to St. Matthew

God of mercy, You chose a tax collector, St. Matthew, to share the dignity of the apostles. By his example and prayers, help us to follow Christ and remain faithful in Your service. We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
