Celebrating All Souls Day

Today we celebrate the feast of All Souls, a day in which we remember and pray for our dearly departed brothers and sisters. It is on this day that we, as the church, pray for the souls in purgatory so that may attain the beatific vision of heaven.
Souls that are in purgatory, must be cleansed from all venial sins and temporal punishments for all the mortal sins which they have committed during their life on earth before they are admitted into heaven.
Praying for the dead is a obligation that all Catholics must observe because it is through our prayers that souls in purgatory are released into heaven. (See 2 Maccabees 12:39-45)

As we remember our dearly departed brothers and sisters who are sleeping in christ with the hope of resurrection, we pray that on the last day, they may come face to face with Jesus. Eternal rest grant onto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them, May them rest in peace. Amen.
